According to recent research by the debt charity Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS), couples have become much more open with their partners about their debt levels.
Their figures reveal a 20% drop in people not telling their partners that they are receiving help for their debt problems. This is when compared to 2008 figures.
Delroy Corinaldi, director of external affairs at the CCCS, said that the fall in secret-keeping is a good thing because “a problem shared is a problem halved”.
He said: “It may be that people are more aware of the difficulties that debt can cause and are therefore more willing to talk about any problems they may have.”
Debt Free Me believe this a step in the right direction. A lot of the stress that our clients have is down to lying / hiding from their partners. We always advise them to tell them everything as a 'problem shared is a problem halved.'
